Four Days of the Raven Cycle - The Dream Thieves Review

Hello everyone! Following up with my Four Days of the Raven Cycle mini-series thing, today I will be reviewing the second book in the Raven Cycle series by Maggie Stiefvater, the Dream Thieves! If you want to see my review of the first book in the series, click on over here! I've got nothing more to say, so let's hop on into it, shall we?

“You really didn't see the sadness or the longing unless you already knew it was there. But that was the trick, wasn't it? Everyone had their disappointment and their baggage; only, some people carried it in their inside pockets and not on their backs.”

Ronan Lynch has secrets. Some he keeps from others. Some he keeps from himself.

One secret: Ronan can bring things out of his dreams. And sometimes he's not the only one who wants those things.

Ronan is one of the raven boys—a group of friends, practically brothers, searching for a dead king named Glendower, who they think is hidden somewhere in the hills by their elite private school, Aglionby Academy. The path to Glendower has long lived as an undercurrent beneath town. But now, like Ronan's secrets, it is beginning to rise to the surface—changing everything in its wake.

I personally enjoyed this book more than the Raven Boys. Pretty much every aspect of it was intriguing and wouldn't let me go, like a rope I could never let go of? But the fact that it centered around Ronan put the icing on my cake.

I love the whole storyline around Ronan, I mean the ability to take things out of your dreams? I talked about Maggie Stiefvater's unique and amazing plots and this is what I mean. It's insane and baffles my mind just wow.

But besides that, I love the story of Ronan's family and who his father was and just all of that is so interesting. I don't really know whether to think of his father as marvelous, or as selfish?

SPOILER- I found the scene with the Barns fascinating. The reason why I found Niall Lynch as selfish was that he created this whole wonderful life but he could have just lived it out some other way, I don't know, just poor Aurora I mean what a way to live. It's horrible, yet magnificent, yet horrible. She lived a life and just is now sitting around, waiting for her husband. - END OF SPOILER

BUT my love for Ronan just grew in this book, as I knew it would as soon as I read the synopsis. His whole personality, the way he acts, just everything about him I mean, how can you not fall in love with him? He's hilarious and just his care for Gansey. He's one of those characters with the hard exterior and the soft interior which I am a sucker for. I love Ronan Lynch.

also spoilers coming up so beware

I also loved the whole Kavinsky thing and how he's like the Graywaren too, but not really because Ronan is? I mean I despised Kavinksy, he does everything I hate: be a jerk, does drugs, is a jerk, does drugs, parties 24/7 like please I just wanted to rip my head out every time he did drugs I hated that so much.

but this book had dragons. it had dragons, I repeat, it had dragons. And you would think that I would have loved this but in fact I thought it was absurdly random and just thrown in there. Just a random battle thrown in at the end. I love dragons, and I knew the story needed them, but I wasn't thinking then and there. Which is honestly the only reason that I did not give this book a solid 5 stars.

but the Gray Man. At first I was like: confusion?? intimidation?? And then I went to: aw so sweet. i bet anything he'll die in the next couple books though. Him and Maura are kind of adorable I lowkey ship it, but not too much considering he literally kills people for a living. fun.

ALSO the scene with Noah and Blue kissing was too much for me to handle it was like a friends with benefits thing I was crying of laughter and dying inside it was so adorable, but not in an otp way but like a friendship way, you feel?

“Noah rubbed the smudge on his cheek. It didn’t go away. It never did. He said, “I know somebody you could kiss.”
“Who?” She realized his eyes were amused. “Oh, wait.”

He shrugged. He was maybe the only person Blue knew who could preserve the integrity of a shrug while lying down. “It’s not like you’re going to kill me. I mean, if you were curious.”

but let's talk about otps. blue and gansey. k i'm done

spoilers have been destroyed, you may continue

Once again, Maggie Stiefvater has made me flail, cry, laugh, and drool over how amazing her writing is in one book. Every thing was beautiful, the characters she writes just feel. so. real. They develop so perfectly, especially all the relationships, which are weaving themselves together ajnckskskd.

currently stocking up tissues as I prepare to read the Raven King.

i know, my reviews are currently crap right now and I'm honestly trying to get better, I just let fangirl get in the way of actual review and it messes me up. I will try harder. I will also add more gifs, those are always fun.

Thanks for reading,
Noor

  1. Ugh, this is my favorite book out of the series. I mean, I haven't read The Raven King yet bUT STILL. (why does shipping take so long??? why???)
Ronan is my smol babe and I just adore the crap out of him. I'm such a sucker for the messed-up guys w/ snarky humor. It's a problem.
Personally, I think your reviews are lovely + I enjoyed this immensely. ^-^
