How To Become A Fan of a Band/Artist

Recently, I’ve become OBSESSED with many bands and singers.  *starts singing Hallelujah by P!ATD* So today, I’m going to teach you all how to become a band fangirl/fanboy. I’ll be using Fall Out Boy as my example.

STEP 1: Discover the band

While scrolling through Spotify, Pandora, or flipping through stations on the radio, you may come across a song from this band.

Ex: *le me flipping through radio stations* SO LIGHT EM UP UP UP LIGHT EM UP UP UP LIGHT EM UP UP UP I’M ON FIYAHHHHH

Me: “This is a cool song!” *pulls out phone* Siri, what song is this?

Siri: This is ‘My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark by Fall Out Boy.”

Me: “Hmm, Fall Out Boy, sounds cool! I should look them up.”

STEP 2: Finding the music

So now that you’ve discovered them, you’ve searched them up on Spotify and now you’re jamming out to their songs.

“DANCE DANCE, WE’RE FALLING APART TO HALFFTIMMEEEE”
“I SAID I. DON’T. CARE WHAT YOU THINK”
“WHAT A CATCCHHHHHHH”
“REMEMBER ME FOR CENTURIESSS”

And now you’re obsessed with the music, now you gotta get obsessed with the band.

STEP 3: Learning about the band

Now that you’ve found the band and listened to their music, you find yourself looking them up on Google.

*me on the computer, googles FOB* “Okay cool, so the lead singer is Patrick Stump. Aww, he looks adorable. The bassist is Pete Wentz, ooh he’s kinda cute, andddd he’s 37, never mind. The drummer is Andy Hurley, he looks awesome. And the guitarist is Joe Trohman, nice hair dude.”

And then you look them up on Wikipedia.

“NOOO POOR 2005 PETE. He had some sick guyliner though. And Patrick was so cute, how dare people be mean to him for being fat. Andy totally put the band together, that’s awesome! AND JOE STARTED THE WHOLE THING, GOOD FOR HIM.”
“WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE. Folie a Deux is an AMAZING ALBUM.”

And then you end up looking at the band members, that’s when you get obsessed.

STEP 4: Becoming fully obsessed

Now, you find yourself constantly watching interviews on Youtube, jamming out to all their songs, all the time and spending all your time making your room a shrine to them. You also see yourself having arguments such as these on various band forums:
"OKAY ANDY HURLEY DOES NOT GET ENOUGH CREDIT. He is an amazing drummer with so much talent. EVERYONE ONLY KNOW PETE AND PATRICK. (Don’t get me wrong, I love them.) BUT ANDY AND JOE ARE AMAZING. WITHOUT THEM, FOB WOULDN’T BE FOB. Your argument is invalid."
Your room is now a shrine to the band, you have several band t-shirts and merch and now you’re stuck in a fandom void.
Hey, don’t blame me, you got yourself into this.
Oh what’s that song? Tear In My Heart by Twenty One Pilots? NOT THIS AGAIN.

I hope you enjoyed this little post and GET READING! If you have a review on any of the books that we read last session, leave the link in the comments and I’ll check it out!
