My Harry Potter Story

Hello everyone! If you don't already know, I live, breath, and speak Harry Potter. It is my everything, my entire reason for existence. Okay not exactly, but it is more than a love, more than an obsession. It's like a constant dose of Amortentia, but for Harry Potter.

So how did this infection of love for this book series begin? It dates back to my glorious age of 8, in 3rd grade. 4 years ago. Ah, in the wonderful store where most love for fandoms begin, Barnes and Nobles.

I was casually browsing books..in the children's section. (I remember when I graduated to the young adult section, that's a story for another day though) And I came across Harry Potter in this gorgeous little stand.

Of course, I had heard of Harry Potter, everyone has at that point, DH Pt2 was coming out later that year or so. (?) I was only 8, Harry Potter had never intrigued me. But the cover was nice, and I could relate to Harry on it. I picked it up, and actually my neighbor's mom (who I'm pretty close to) bought it for me.

I treaded on home and read the book, finishing it in a half a week, absolutely loving it, and kept on reading it. I still remember when I read Chamber of Secrets and always checked the floor before I go to bed for a Basilisk :P And being so happy when I FINALLY finished Order of the Phoenix and crying because of the particular beloved human being that passed on (sob).

AND HERMIONE IN THE GOBLET OF FIRE DURING YULE BALL. she was (is) all I aspired to be honestly.

the dress isn't blue ugh

I was obsessed and I got all my friends into it slightly. I would have movie marathons every other weekend I swear and watch ALL the Potter Puppet Pals videos over and over again. Just obsessed.

But, I hadn't finished Deathly Hallows yet. I was in the airport when I did finish it and I cried and I cried and I couldn't stop. Little, just turned 9 year old me, bawling my eyes out in the airport. It was a symbol of relief, and depression and emptiness.

It didn't stop there, I went deeper into the fandom. I remember one night freaking out because I hadn't watched DH Pt 1 yet so we went ALL OVER town looking for one that WASN'T Blu-Ray. Sadly, we did not. But my dad actually BOUGHT a Blu-Ray just so we could watch the movie. Turns out there was a regular DVD version in the set.

I actually began to lost my obsession for quite a while until I'd say 2014-2015 ish and that's when I FOUND SHIPPING. I reread the series and found myself putting people together and later learning that this was called "shipping". This new find completely changed the series for me and I began literally analyzing the series and shipping every single character with another character. it's great.

Here I am today, 4 years later, still as deep in my obsession as I was that day when I finished the 1st book. Maybe even more.

I love this series with every ounce of my body, it's a great source of happiness for me. And there's just so much to it, and it keeps going. I don't think I can put it into words honestly. "I love Harry Potter" is just an understatement honestly.

I highly recommend just divulging into this series, honestly, it's just the greatest. You might not love it as much as I do, but I hope you will appreciate it somewhat.

Are you obsessed with Harry Potter? (I think this answer is yes for most of you) Who is your favorite character. MOST IMPORTANTLY. Who do you ship Hermione with?

Thanks for reading,
Noor

  1. OK YES I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO POSTS SOPPY HARRY POTTER POSTS FOR NO REASON OTHER THAN TO CELEBRATE THIS BEAUTIFUL WONDERFUL BOOK SERIES THAT IS BASICALLY A GOLD MINE FOR SARCASTIC ONE LINERS AND DEEPER PHILOSOPHICAL MESSAGES AND REASONS TO LOVE DANIEL RADCLIFFE

Okay, but seriously, this post was soul wrenching. It brought back all of my memories of first picking up the series, then reading it book by book by book. By the time I read the last, I was obsessed. And, exactly like you, I forgot about it (well, I just wasn't as obsessed with it) for a while too. Just last year, I rediscovered it and I've reread them so many times it's a little sad. AND UGH every time I read it, it feels like I'm coming home again. The music brings tears to my eyes and the warm fuzzy feelings I get every time I see reference to it are all too much. I've never met a Harry Potter fan I didn't like. They're all such wonderful people, taught such important messages through this sacred book series.

    ANYWAY DOWN TO THE QUESTIONS
    1. I think this goes without saying.
    2. I'd have to say Dobby. He's just so cute and humble and so underestimated.
    3. I never gave up on shipping Ron and Hermione, even after J.K. Rowling's scandalous announcement. Hear me out. Hermione and Harry's friendship was so important for the world to see that it is possible for a male and female to have a purely platonic relationship, to be able to love each other unconditionally as brother and sister. The scene in the Half-Blood Prince summed it all up for me: they were able to comfort each other, hold each other, without feeling any tension at all. They did work well together, but neither ever showed any interest in the other. But, Harry needed someone more sarcastic and sporty than Hermione, and BOOK Ginny was perfect for him. Hermione and Ron were always polar opposites, and that's why they were so attracted to each other. Their Patronuses meant that they were LITERALLY soulmates. They always felt jealous of each other's lovers, and ever since book three or four, it was made quite obvious. Their personalities, though being so different, were very compatible and they just had so much CHEMISTRY.

Ok so those are my answers I worked very hard on them

    1. haha oops I don't ship Hermione with Ron, just because I don't see how they fit together? It just doesn't work for me and seeing as Ron really did nothing for the story, he honestly didn't do anything to deserve Hermione.

    2. my mouth is now stuck wide open for eternity at these words "seeing as ron really did nothing for the story" and "he honestly didn't do anything to deserve Hermione" A BIlLION SHOCK EMOJI'S!

    3. It's true though, if you go back in the story. I love Ron, he provided comic relief and was a great friend in the stories. But their personalities didn't match for love. I saw Ron and Harry as brothers for Hermione honestly. Just my opinion :)

    4. That's alright. Who do you ship Hermione with, though?

    6. but how could u say he did nothing for the story or that he didn't DESERVE hermione? I love Hermione, but honestly, what did she do to be better than Ron? She was pretty stuck-up towards him too.

    7. he honestly didn't, if you go back and look. He saved Harry once and other times he just stood around and looked funny. Hermione did so many things and without her, Harry or Ron wouldn't be alive. She was stuck up but she was a great character in the end that went on to do amazing things.

Oakstar: I personally ship Draco with Hermione. I know they weren't IN LOVE but I just thought their personalities fit together. Or Harry and Draco, that would be fine too.

  2. HARRY POTTER IS MY SECRET OBSESSION! I think my favourite character is either Ginny or Luna. Ginny seems so sweet and Luna is just totally wacky and I love it. I have to say that I have always shipped Harry and Ginny. They just seem very compatible and I think they would have a strong relationship.

  5. YES I AM. THAT IS SUCH A HARD QUESTION WHY WOULD YOU EVER. HAHAokay, so I have such profound connections to each of that characters that I don't even know how to answer. I love Lupin, McGonagal, all the Weasleys, Sirius, Hagrid, Neville, Dobby, Dumbledore, and, of course, the Golden Trio. :') Too many beautiful humans. I ship her with Ron. I'm very firmly grounded in this shipment ;) I'd love to hear your thoughts though!!!!!!

    1. YES LUPIN SUPPORT O M L. And I ship Draco and Hermione AHAH. I just thought Ron and Hermione didn't fit. Ron didn't do enough for Hermione to make her fall for him. Like I just saw both Harry and Ron as brothers toward Hermione :)

  6. YOU CHALLENGE ME TO ASK HARRY POTTER QUESTIONS? I ACCEPT YOUR CHALLENGE!

    1. Um, yes, is that even a question? My parents recently asked me if I wanted to give up the hardback versions of them in exchange for ebooks, and I looked at them, thinking, "Oh my shish kebabs, one does not simply throw away their childhood like that." Also, when my family went to Harry Potter World at the Universal Studio in Orlando, my family would not get me to shut up and stop making noises that are supposed to be fan girling noises???? Like, HEEEELLLLOOOOO

    2. Hermione, Ginny, and Luna are my favorite characters, because I identify with all of them: Hermione is my rather smart-aleck sort of side, and while I don't try to rub it in that I'm smart, I'm usually the person that people look to when it comes to school work. Ginny is more of the tomboyish side of me that likes to prove that she is as hardcore as her many brothers-- I only have a younger brother, but all of my guy friends treat me like I'm their little sister and I really don't want to look like a damsel in distress. Luna represents my rather weird side-- my friends think I'm slightly out-of-it because I engage myself in rather crazy (yet very child-like) habits. Oh, yes, and throw Dobby in there too, because he's the fieriest House-elf there ever was!

    3. I ship Hermione and Ron. I actually found out about the announcement J.K Rowling made via my brother, who heard it in his LoTR game chat, and even though my heart cries every time I think about it, I still ship the two. Rowling said that she thought she made a mistake because she their constant bickering wouldn't work in a real world situation, but think of it this way: they are polar opposites. Yes, it's quite obvious. But people can change by the other people in their life, so even if the two do clash heads, they probably got were changed in some ways during their marriage-- after all, they still were together in the epilogue!

    xoxo Morning

  9. I can SO relate to this. if you didn't see the post on my blog about it, i got into it around the same time. My friends and I used to dress up as harry potter and hermionie, (poor ron) play games about him, write stories. even now i can't help but do those things :) Harry potter is definetely my favourite series and i'm going to treasure it forever. Glad there's someone else like me.

  10. I'm not that much of a Harry Potter fan, but the books are SO well written and beautiful. I ship Hermione with Draco, but also Harry with Draco. My reasoning is just because I'm a huge Carry on/Fangirl fan and those to ships are So Snowbaz(ish).

  11. I am a die hard dramoine shipper. Like Hermione and Draco were 'obviously' in love the whole time. I'm not even kidding. I went through a dark phase in my life where I read EVERY Draco/Hermione fanfiction I could find. It fueled my small flame and now I have a passionate fire burning for them. I went and rewatched the series, many times I might add, and I cringe so hard at Ron and Hermione. Its sweet and all, but they have NO chemistry. Okay, I just had to put that out there.

  13. I'm a massive fan of Harry Potter, but it was actually the films that had me interested in reading the series and back then I wasn't a reader. The books were great, but the films are so majestic and I can understand why you're so enamored with them. I don't know about Hermione and Ron. I think they fit well together but she seems in a completely different league to Ron. But I don't want her with Harry either, because she's far too strong willed for him. Imagine her with Malfoy though, gosh that would be explosive! Awesome post, so lovingly written. Loved it! <3
